How To Check Smartphone 4G LTE Bands And Frequencies Via Mtk Engineering Mode

How To Check Smartphone 4G LTE Bands And Frequencies Via Mtk Engineering Mode

4G LTE Service in Nigeria seems to be what’s in vogue and we are now moving out of 3G gradually for 4G service, each of the networks have different frequency bands for their 4G LTE and supported device is going to be the matter of contention.

To enjoy super blazing internet speed, it is not as simple as buying a 4G smartphone, inserting your 4G LTE SIM and start surfing with it. Guys, it is much more than that. Lots of people were disappointed when they discovered that their device doesn’t support Glo 4G band 28 (700Mhz) after cat walking into the Glo office to get USIM.
It is important to know your smartphone 4G LTE bands and frequency to avoid story that touch. I will urge you to fasten up your seat belt and stay glued to the next information that will follow because I’m about to embark you in an unknown journey; trust me, you will be safe.

Read through this article to find out everything you need to know about 4G LTE bands, networks and smartphone compatibility.
Right now, 3 major networks have the 4G LTE service in Nigeria and they are MTN, Glo and Etisalat. Other networks in Nigeria with 4G LTE services are Spectranet, ntel, Swift and Smile. We are expecting Airtel to roll out their 4G services soon. Most of the 4G smartphones in Nigeria use band 3, 4, 7, 20 or 28. Check out what band your preferred network has below:
  1. MTN 4G LTE , supports band 20 (800MHz) and Band 7 (2600MHz)
  2. Glo 4G LTE, supports band 28 (700MHz)
  3. Etisalat 4G LTE, supports band 3 (1800MHz)
  4. NTEL 4G LTE, supports band 8 (900MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz)
  5. Spectranet and Swift, supports band 40 (2300mhz)
  6. Smile, supports band 20 (800mhz)
Those are the numbers folks and according what we heard, the lower frequencies tend to perform better in rural areas with fewer masts and they can travel through walls better with decent coverage while the higher frequencies do the opposite, but they can cope with more users in populated areas connecting at once. These are technical terms that I don’t think you need right now, whatever frequency your preferred network has, you should get some decent upload and download speed. You could download 1GB file under 4-mins, and this is a fact!

To Check Your 4G LTE Network Band Via Mtk Engineering

  4. Tap BandMode
  5. Select your SIM

  7. If you cannot tick the band 28 check box, then forget about using Glo 4G LTE service.
  8. If you cannot tick the band 3 check box, then forget about using Etisalat 4G LTE service.
  9. If you are not able tick band 20 or 7 check box, your phone is not supported for MTN 4G LTE service. If you use Ntel and you can’t tick band 8 or band 3, then your smartphone has no support for Ntel network.

For those who are not using MTK smartphones, before you purchase your next 4G Android smartphone, kindly ask via comment box below or simply tell us which 4G phone you are using and we as a family will help you out on 4G networks that supports your device.

GLO: Another FREE DATA Day on 28th

GLO: Another FREE DATA Day on 28th

Globacom still on with their idea of free browsing day.

Good news guys,  the Glo Free Data Day is back and better and it will hold on the 28th of this month, NCC stepped in and tried to stop the Free data day promo in which I thought would be the end of the Glo Free data day promo, but as thing stands now, it seems they have resolved all the issues concerning the proposed NCC embargo.

I think the major problem I have with Glo is the issue of their epileptic data signal, but if you do not have issues with Glo network then it's time to enjoy freebies. According to Glo;

See what GLO said:
You enjoy up to 200MB worth of data to browse your favorite websites, chat and stream videos, but customers need to meet set of voice and/or data usage threshold within 7 days to the free data day.
And I got this message:

In-case you didn't get a message like this.. Don't worry about Eligibility.
It is very easy to be eligible for the free data day offer, because if you are actively using the Glo network then it should not be a problem for you. To be eligible just fulfill the following threshold 7 days before the promo set day.

  • Use N150 or more on voice calls PLUS 100MB OR
  • Use N250 or more on voice calls.
If you meet the above requirements, then you will receive an SMS announcing your eligibility for the free data day.
You don’t need to do anything to qualify for Glo Free Data Day, all Glo customers who meet the set threshold are eligible.

I think the major problem I have with Glo is the issue of their epileptic data signal, but if you do not have issues with Glo network then it's time to enjoy freebies. According to Glo;

[3 tips] on How to know if your site or blog is Mobile Responsive/ Friendly

Your site/ blog have to be mobile resonsive, you simply hve no say in the matter...

Unless of cource you dont care about how your Guest or Customer find you. You see, your guest are not only seeing your post, products or services online with their desktop computers, but they are also using their smartphone and tablet computer to do so..

In this post i have compilled 3 tools that you can you to check your site or blog if it is mobile responsive or mobile friendly..

This tool is very easy to use, as you only need to enter your website’s URL for it to generate a report that will tell whether your website is mobile-friendly or not. It sees your website the same way Googlebot does rather than mobile users might see it. Aside from that, it also allows users to see the actual view of websites on mobile.
It’s easy to know whether you pass the test or not.
This is the example report of a mobile-friendly website:

And this is the example report of a website that isn’t mobile-friendly:

But don’t worry, as this tool provides all the reasons why your website failed, and the necessary actions you can take to make it responsive.

Just like Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test, HubSpot’s Marketing Grader has the capability to analyze if your site is responsive enough. It gives users the freedom to see the actual view of their websites on mobile, plus the ability to preview a rotated version.

Am I Responsive is the tool I’m using to support all the analysis and recommendations I’m getting from other mobile-friendly checker tools. The best bit about this tool is that it gives you actual screenshots of how your website looks on each device.
Also, you have the option to view your website on different operating system, may it be mobile phone, tablet or desktop.
Conclusion
Don’t let your site be left behind with all the algorithm updates! Remember that the best way to stay in the battle for ranking well is by being updated, and by actually executing the necessary modifications to your website.
Over to you!

Etisalat’s exit from Nigeria

Etisalat’s exit from Nigeria

Update: Etisalat Nigeria has changed its brand name to 9Mobile. At the helm of the transition is newly appointed CEO, Boye Olusanya. It is worthy of note that Olusanya played a role in the transitioning of Celtel Nigeria (now Airtel Nigeria) in 2010.

Source
Recently, Etisalat Nigeria announced a new board of directors, but they may be overseeing a new entity in a few weeks. This is because Etisalat has just withdrawn its shares from Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services (EMTS) which has operated as its Nigerian branch.
According to Reuters, all the UAE shareholders have terminated their agreement and exited the company’s board. To this effect, EMTS has only three weeks to bear the name ‘Etisalat Nigeria’.

“There’s a new board and we are not part of that company. We have sent our termination letter for the management agreement.” Hatem Dowidar, CEO Etisalat International.
While Etisalat International have made references to the finality of their exit from Nigeria, EMTS has insisted that ongoing discussions with the group are in no way conclusive.
EMTS has a valid and subsisting agreement with the Etisalat Group, which entitles EMTS to use the Etisalat brand, notwithstanding the recent changes within the Company. Indeed, discussions are ongoing between EMTS and Etisalat Group pertaining to the continued use of the brand, and EMTS will issue a formal statement once discussions are concluded.” Ibrahim Dikko, Vice President, EMTS

One week, one trouble?

Long before Etisalat’s trouble became a weekly affair, it has battled with a $1.2 billion loan repayment from 2013. Exchange rates have stealthily risen since the time the company took the loan till date and this has plunged the company into a deep financial mess.

This led to the company’s acquisition by its lenders, 3 Nigerian and 7 other foreign banks. Now, that its parent body is in the process of disengagement, does EMTS have what it takes to survive?
Dowidar suggested two premises on the company’s survival.
“(Nigerian) lenders may try to continue to operate the company until they find a buyer (or) they may merge the company with the existing players in Nigeria.”
Perhaps, it would be acquired by private investors such as Dangote, since the new CEO, Bode Olusanya was his former employee.
However, for EMTS, a change in identity may not affect their business operations or range of services.
“EMTS is here to stay and we wish to assure our esteemed customers that our core values of youthfulness, customer-centricity and innovation will remain the pillars on which we operate.”
